Church Blog for 16 January 2010

Welcome to the Church at Home Blog

Happy New Year, welcome to 2010 and I would like to extend a warm welcome to all people reading this may the Lord Jesus Christ bless you, protect you and send his ministering angels to watch over you as you go about this life he has given you.

The purpose of this blog is to keep people up to date with what is happening with Church at Home to lift up and glorify the name of Jesus Christ, to share the love and the gospel to a sad and dying world.  It promotes his online church "Church at home" this concept was formed to help people that struggle through sickness, disability, or have had bad experiences with the church that stops them from getting to live church services.

We are non denominational and have from around the world, people that attend Church at home service that do go to and take active roles in Sunday Churches. Church at home is a bible based Church and preaches the gospel as it is, you will not find sermons here to the likening of all, but we teach it the way it was taught by the early church hard hitting to the point and at times confrontational.

Let us be Challenged in 2010 to live by the Rules of Holy Living!

Are you prepared to take the challenge and live a holy life? The bible makes it quite clear what we are to do. We are told in Colossians 3:1-17 about the Rules for Holy Living......

1 You have been raised up with Christ. So think about things that are in heaven. That is where Christ is. He is sitting at God's right hand.

2 Think about things that are in heaven. Don't think about things that are on earth.

3 You died. Now your life is hidden with Christ in God.

4 Christ is your life. When he appears again, you also will appear with him in heaven's glory.

5 So put to death anything that belongs to your earthly nature. Get rid of your sexual sins and unclean acts. Don't let your feelings get out of control. Remove from your life all evil longings. Stop always wanting more and more. You might as well be worshiping statues of gods.

6 God's anger is going to come because of those things.

7 That's the way you lived at one time in your life.

8 But now here are the kinds of things you must get rid of. You must put away anger, rage, hate and lies. Let no dirty words come out of your mouths.

9 Don't lie to each other. You have gotten rid of your old way of life and its habits.

10 You have started living a new life. It is being made new so that what you know has the Creator's likeness.

11 Here there is no Greek or Jew. There is no difference between those who are circumcised and those who are not. There is no rude outsider, or even a Scythian. There is no slave or free person. But Christ is everything. And he is in everything.

12 You are God's chosen people. You are holy and dearly loved. So put on tender mercy and kindness as if they were your clothes. Don't be proud. Be gentle and patient.

13 Put up with each other. Forgive the things you are holding against one another. Forgive, just as the Lord forgave you.

14 And over all of those good things put on love. Love holds them all together perfectly as if they were one.

15 Let the peace that Christ gives rule in your hearts. As parts of one body, you were appointed to live in peace. And be thankful.

16 Let Christ's word live in you like a rich treasure. Teach and correct each other wisely. Sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing with thanks in your hearts to God.

17 Do everything you say or do in the name of the Lord Jesus. Always give thanks to God the Father through Christ

Then in Colossians 3:18-25 we are given Rules for Christian Families....

18 Wives, follow the lead of your husbands. That's what the Lord wants you to do.

19 Husbands, love your wives. Don't be mean to them.

20 Children, obey your parents in everything. That pleases the Lord.

21 Fathers, don't make your children bitter. If you do, they will lose hope.

22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything. Don't do it just to please them when they are watching you. Obey them with an honest heart. Do it out of respect for the Lord.

23 Work at everything you do with all your heart. Work as if you were working for the Lord, not for human masters.

24 Work because you know that you will finally receive as a reward what the Lord wants you to have. You are serving the Lord Christ.

25 Anyone who does wrong will be paid back for what he does. God treats everyone the same.

So over the next few weeks let us expand on what this means so that we can apply it to our lives if we are not all ready doing it.

3.5 In verse three, we were told that we died. Here we are told to put to death our members which are on Earth. In these two verses we have a very clear illustration of the differences between a believers standing and state. His standing is that he has died. His state should be that of reckoning himself dead to seem by putting to death is members which are on this Earth. Our standing is what we are in Christ. Our state is what we are in ourselves. Our standing is in the free gift of God through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Our state represents our response to God's grace.

Here we should also notice the difference between the law and grace. God does not say," if you lead a life of freedom is sin, and then I will give you a position of death with Christ." That would be the law. Our position would depend on our own efforts and needless to say, no one would ever attain in that position. Instead of that, God says "I freely give to all who believe on the Lord Jesus a position of Faber in my sight. Now go out and live a life that is consistent with such a high calling." That is grace!

When the apostle says that we should put to death our members which are on this Earth, he does not mean that we should literally destroy any other members of our physical body! The expression is figurative, and is explained in the in the phrases that follows. The word member is used to signify the various forms of our last and hatred that are enumerated.

Fornication is generally U's to describe unlawful sexual intercourse or immorality, especially between single people (Matthew 15:19; Mark 7:21). Sometimes it is broader, and is translated sexual immorality. Uncleanliness refers to impurity of thoughts, words, or actions. It speaks of moral filth rather than physical dirtiness here. Passion denotes strong and unbridled lust. Evil desire speaks of intense and often violent craving. Covetousness in general meanings greediness or the desire to have more, but here you may refer explicitly to an unholy desire to satisfy sexual appetite which is idolatry.

The list begins with acts and moves on to motives. The various forms of sexual sin are described, then they are traced to their lair, namely, covetous heart of man. The word of God is clear in teaching that there is nothing inherently wrong with sex. God made man with the power of reproduction. But the sin comes when those things which God has so graciously bestowed upon his creation are used for viral, illicit purposes. Sexual sin was that cardinal offence of the pagan world in Paul's day, and doubtless it still holds first place. Where believers are not yielded to the Holy Spirit, sexual sins often came into their lives and proved to be their downfall.

3.6 Men think that they can commit these outrageous scenes and escape punishment. The heavens seemed to be silent, and man increases his boldness. But God is not to be mocked. The wrath of God comes down upon the sons of the disobedience for these things. These sins have their consequences in this life; people reap in their own bodies is the result of sexual immorality. In addition they will reap a terrible harvest of judgement in the day get future.

Wayne's Weekly Bible Verses

The Humbled and Exalted Christ

5Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,
7but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
8And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
9Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,
10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,
11and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2:5:11

Question
Who wrote the book of 1 Chronicles and what year was it written?

Answer
Traditionally, it's been thought Ezra wrote Chronicles. But an unknown priest or Levite may have been the author. Chronicles was written around 450 to 400 BC more than six centuries after the first events it records, about 100-150 years after the last events in 2 and Chronicles 36. The two books (originally one) re-examined the history of Israel from a relatively positive perspective. The writers apparent goals was for the Israelites to recognize the godly roots and to rediscover their heritage.

Question
Who wrote the book of 2 Chronicles and what year was it written?
